Yma Sumac

September 13, 1922 – November 1, 2008 was a Peruvian Soprano.Very much a classic beauty she was one of the famous proponents becoming an international success. Having a extreme vocal range some say she could claim five octaves. In my interest of the 1950's era, doing my research I came across Yma Sumac not knowing that she was the creator for the sound of the 'Mambo'. Eye closed with you ears dedicated to the sounds of her voice, takes you on a journey some where else.

Naja Conrad-Hansen

The images that are created from Naja Conrad-Hansen are very strong,very much directed in the field of fashion illustration, there is a blend of different drawing qualities also introducing type. I love the way she has capture the facial features to be very dark and mysterious limiting herself to colour.

Seeing this images had inspired me to get some metallic pens and I think that I have an afro obsession, which drew me to these images.

Hs anyone seen this???? I was down Brick Lane on my way to Atlantic's and i found this image of this Massive Bird on the side of the building it looks amazing. It looks better in life but if your in the area check it out.

I have always loved his photography in his crazed way the concept of these image display a dramatic scene. He work underlines as something that has never been done before, will to push the boundaries and innovative. Other ideas that have developed in his work is taking historical event and making it commercial such as this image with Courtney Love which a appears to be Kurt Cobain posed as Christ, show Cobain influence has the quality or similarity as christ.

The Nut Too Strong to Crack Collection by Georgia Nash

Part of The Nut Too Strong to Crack collection by GEORGIA NASH each model representing a different character from the Nutcracker production. Not following a specific style but being influenced by the 1950's focused towards shape, there is resemblance towards this collection. Drawn to this image the oversize jacket is very striking with duplicated layers, the break up between over weight coat and light body suit gives the dramatic element. This collection was in creation to her degree BA Fashion degree show.

Mademoiselle Robot

Recently visiting the Sketchbook magazines Pop-up Shop in Newburgh Street, I attend a lecture in "Getting Started" taken by Laetitia Wajnapel (7th April). Taking her writing further in 2007 she created ‘Mademoiselle Robot’. Her blog traffic developed and grew throughout the years, stayed true to herself and continued blogging. Not being on of her main intention to get into fashion her blog has become a platform for this. In her previous industry for games she has said, “that it was easy to navigate” where as fashion is different “always having to stay under that radar”. Everything being down to herself posting once a day for five days a week is what she sticks to, saying it can become too much to post seven days a week and having little to write. If lose readers it does not matter to her as it is enjoyable.

Fashion Visual Merchandising Windows

I'm trying to get some inspiration for my fashion illustration, courtesy of the window of designs of selfridges they have always had a good display. These are some of the images of what can be seen. The colours and dare devil fashion works very well and striking to the eye. These images remind me of something out of New York or tokyo but having a london twist, splashes with colour.

Other windows I started to look at where Zara's, a bit more quiet the Selfridges, There is still some interest parts to this and having the factor of quirkiness. Styles that have can be viewed are a mix and blend of a lot of things but work well. The use of objects help to reflected fashion which make it what it is today.

Chris ofili

Recently I have visited the Chris Ofili exhibition at the Tate Britain, the work exhibited was amazing I would advise anyone to go and see it. Majority of Ofili piece are created to a large scale using a lot of imagination and less thought process. If your into colourful images and something unusual then this is for you. There are similarities to Kerry James Marshall in his work, Marshall direction of topic is structure on the American Race Riots.

Jet magazine was found in the 1950s by John. H Johnson, this magazine was a weekly Afro American Magazine. Mainly interested for news of activism that leading to activities civil rights movement. In the development for magazines the use of images where every badly cropped being a cause to a low budget but gives a edgy feel. Other things I question are using a black and white image, was race still a problem?

Beauty Parade

Beauty Parade 1942 and was published by Robert Harrison. These images where created for men magazines. comparison to the men magazines that are around today many of the are photographic. I believe there was a limit to how much nudity was displayed where it was left to the creator imagination, giving us our own perception of beauty. Peter Driben was one of the Biggest Pin up illustrator of this time, where he would have been creating images of Beauty Parade to wink. Many of his images consist of Pen and Ink which is still common today to illustrators.

The Men's Adventure magazine cover take on a whole different role making the woman to look more domineering showing the was a start of equality.

Stella Vine

Giving me influence in the use of gesture in her work. Many of her images are not over powering as she use a big message. There is a sequence that many of her images are based around her life. Vine used bright and bold colors with less use of detail which is more striking to the eye. All of Vine work does not have that life like quality but are still recognisable.
