Whitecross Street Party

Hi everyone I will be taking part if the Whitecross Street Party event as a contributing artist and long side many over amazing creators, so feel free to come down and enjoy the day for more information to what will be happening please read below, this is taking place on the 23rd and 24th of July.

The Whitecross Street Party: Rise of the non-conformists is a two-day street party and four week exhibition featuring some of the world’s most creative pranksters and musical mischief makers. Set in the stomping ground of William Blake, right next to London’s non-conformist cemetery the event celebrates the maverick spirit for which the area is famed along the entire length of Whitecross street and surrounding areas. For two days on the 23rd and 24th July the Street will become a celebration of the arts involving some of the most exciting local and international creatives who will transform the city landscape into a giant outdoor art gallery.

In addition, for six weeks after the street party the street will host the ‘rise of the non-conformists’ exhibition, giving London a free outdoor art gallery summer experience.

The art
Rooftops and walls will become a giant canvas to celebrate the visual arts and allow the ‘third hippest street in Britain’ to blossom into a fiesta of creative expression. On the street party weekend we will stage live painting demonstrations and visitors will also be able to make art and design t-shirts using stencils, lino prints, and silk screen printing.
Inside the live painting arena you will also find a small shop where the ‘print of the day’ will be released alongside other art offerings. Collectors eat your heart out!

The music
The event will enjoy a Parisian-pavement-style acoustic accompaniment as well as musical manifestations from the Barbican centre which this year will include the Trans-Siberian Marching Band, All Soul Rebels and Swarm (though when and how Swarm will arrive will remain shrouded in mystery). There will also be plenty more musical surprises.

The family
Children should love the event too. We have a whole chill out / children’s area in Fortune Street Park, dedicated to all kinds of silliness. This includes the usual culprits such as face painting, bouncy castle, fun gardening and glass painting as well as other oddities including a human fruit machine.

The sports arena
In Quaker Court we will have football coaches on hand to fine tune future world cup winners. In the true spirit of the Street Party, we will also be running a non-conformist sports day for those who enjoy playing sports that haven’t been invented yet.

The marketplace
Foodies – you are in luck. Whitecross Street’s renowned Food Market will be serving up international delights all weekend.
The marketplace will also provide a platform for artists to represent themselves. Last year the place was packed, so we strongly advise artists with a good product to step up and present themselves and their creations!

Civilian

Hi everyone this is a new blog post from myself it's been a while so I thought I should up date you to what I have currently been working on. this piece of work is title 'Civilian' this resorts back to a couple week when I viewed a documentary about 'Sri Lanka's Killing Fields' on Channel 4. This had been so hard hitting and shocking for me as so innocent peoples lives had been taken away, as the UN stood by and did nothing this is the common case for many countries. This angered me I want to turn this in to a visual getting my point across to all my viewers.

Bring this image together the main focus was using the face of Fredrick Douglas a civil war leader in the year of 1845 where he thought for many rights. With what appears to be birds fly out of his left eye this is a presentation of freedom in the eyes a leader, in hope that he gives to his people to set them free. As we wonder to the bottom of the this image I created a concept of using the most hated people around the world that brought there country to turmoil, taking there masculinity away from them I wanted portray the look of inferior, this is shown by having women's features. In the far corner there displays a boy holding a sign saying 'hope' he is a representation of his people.

This piece is exhibited at the Whitecross Street Market, Barbican, London, EC1 8JL as well as a variety of other contributing artist, further events taking place are the Whitecross Street Party on the dates of 23rd and 24th of July 2011 for further details please click on this link Whitecross Street Party.
